This was our kagami biraki 2024

A personally coloured experience report from this year’s kagami biraki in the dojo of Aikido Yuyashinkai in Vienna

It was a great pleasure to celebrate this year’s New Year’s festival (kagami biraki) with you, your families and friends in our dojo. It was especially special because of your commitment and enthusiasm on and off the mat.

Almost all Aikido fellows took part and represented very well the few who couldn’t make it this time; during the joint preparation and training, as well as during the Aikido demonstration (embu). Many thanks to all the Aikidoka – Patrick, Markus, Raya, Vera, Clemens, Martina, Lionel and Valerio – who presented their skills so marvellously.

Some pictures (sorry, for the poor quality, caused by my bad photography skills ^^):

I would particularly like to emphasise the martial spirit shown by those who have only recently started training in our dojo, but who are nevertheless fully committed to exploring the path.

Best bits of this years embu at our kagami biraki:

After training and embu, it was time to socialise and the mat area was quickly taken over by the kids and our dear visitors. Thanks to everyone who accompanied our Aikidoka and gave the demonstration a dignified setting.

The home-made rice cakes (daifuku) from real Japanese hands, which Chiharu – a noble donor – sent us, were also an extraordinary highlight. Thank you very much for this delicious gift.

If the Aikido year 2024 is only half as good as the signs of the kagami biraki suggest, it will be a great year!

I am grateful for your participation and see you soon on the mat.
Your dojo-cho, Fritz.
