Kagami biraki: 2021 sword stikes for good fortune

This years kagami biraki (traditional new years ceremony) will take place – online as expected – on January, 11th. Until then I’d like you to take part in our suburi session. For good (better) fortune in 2021 we want to complete 2021 suburi (sword strikes) together …

Everyone is invited to take part in the challenge. Within the next week just do as much suburi as you like at home and let me know about the number you reached. I will sum it up and the rest will be done during our kagami biraki online training on January, 11th, 6 pm.

If you can send me a short video and/or picture of you performing the suburi, I’d be happy to arrange it in a short new years welcome clip … 🙂

You can do the suburi kneeling or standing, depending on your surroundings – this video shows how to do it properly:

Note: If you do not have a bokken, you can use a stick or even just your bare hands too.

Every single suburi counts (to not leave me alone with too much work for good fortune at the end ^^). Please let me know how much you did until Saturday, 9th of January!

I also hope you can join the kagami biraki live session on Monday – for sure you are very welcome even if you do not take part in the suburi challenge!
